Starting point n. …A place that marks the beginning of a journey.
The starting point of my project was my interest in the man-made structures that has been constructed around Kuala Lumpur during my two years absence. It has made me consider the relationship between the structures and it’s interaction with my personal identity. My immediate response from my interest was questioning and asking myself: ‘Is this home?’ and ‘How can I interpret this strange sensation?’. It is through these questions that sparked a curiosity within me that acted as an inspiration to investigate and uncover the role of Place, Identity and Memory within my practice.
Drawing relations from phenomenology surrounding my subject, keywords were extracted and utilized to lead me into selecting different approaches, researching relevant artists and theories and developing a methodology that will support my intention and interpretation of my subject.
